The gift exercise/Invitation 7: Swiss National Park
During their research in Nairs, the artist duo Willimann/Arai (Zurich/Tokyo) follows the traces of a 1000-year-old Hallimasch mycelium (lat. Armillaria ostoyae), which lives in the area of the Swiss National Park and is known as the largest mushroom in Europe. Through the examination of this fungus as a historical witness, Willimann/Arai investigate the prehistory of the Swiss National Park as well as the notion of a nature completely untouched by humans. During their stay at the Nairs Lab, Willimann/Arai share their work with the local public. The Nairs Lab functions as an exhibition space, a studio, and a platform for the exchange of various forms of knowledge and interests between the artists, experts, and visitors.
