Here to Pass, Not to Stay
By transpassing a gate, an uncanny and arcane organism is encountered, which serves as both an intimate refuge and an immersive experience hosting human, non-human, plants and spores. The fabrication of fungal mycelium materials, which implies a living and decaying stage, is critically juxtaposed to the anthropocentric Western notions of resources extraction, conservation and ceaseless desire for perpetuity. Instead of discerning conservation as the endless preservation of objects, the site-responsive installation challenges this paradigm by embracing the transitory nature of the material and therefore questions whether conservation should solely focus on preservation or should also encompass the acceptance of change and decay as inherent aspects of life.
The exhibition will take up residence within an intimate gathering for one day, welcoming hosts to venture into its belly and become part of this collective body.
